On June 6, 1974, diplomatic missions between Trinidad & Tobago and the Soviet Union were signed. Since the fall of the Soviet Union, both nations have been interested in one another. Trinidad acknowledged Russia as the USSR’s replacement in August 1992. Currently, a non-resident embassy in Georgetown is responsible for representing Russia in Trinidad & Tobago (Guyana). The protocol on the political contact between Knowlson Gift and Sergey Lavrov was signed in 2004. A cooperation agreement was signed by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation in April 2005. 2004 saw nine performances of the Russian Cossack folk dance in Port of Spain, San Fernando, Couva, and Tobago.

There are friendly relations between the United States and Trinidad & Tobago.
