The Republic of Mozambique, which is situated on Africa’s southeast coast, exported commodities worth US$5.1 billion in 2021.

This sum of money has grown by 9.1% since 2017 and accelerated by 47.7% from 2020 to 2021.

According to the estimated exchange rate for 2021, the Mozambican pula has lost 3% value since 2017 but gained 5.8% from 2020 to 2021. Since 2020, Mozambique’s exports priced in weaker US dollars have been much more expensive for foreign consumers.

Coal, including coal-based fuels, electrical energy, titanium ores, and concentrates, coke or semi-coke, aluminum bars, and rods, dried shelled vegetables, petroleum gases, unprocessed tobacco and tobacco trash, aluminum wire, and coal are Mozambique’s ten most important exports. Given that they account for 89.7% of the total value of Mozambique’s international shipments, its top 10 exports are concentrated. Among the top 10 export categories, gems and precious metals experienced the highest growth, increasing by 848.7% between 2020 and 2021.

Vegetables came in second for increasing export sales with an increase of 162.2%.

Shipments of sugar from Mozambique, including sugar confections, experienced the third-fastest increase in value, rising by 105%.

Due to a -10.8% decrease year over year, tobacco and its manufactured substitutes were the top declining export category among Mozambique’s top 10.
