St. Lucia is an island country in the Eastern Caribbean. It has two peaks that sharply taper off. Volcanic coastlines, coral diving locations, five-star hotels, and fisher communities line the shore. There are pathways in the deep rainforest that lead to waterfalls, which flow into a meadow from a rock. Castries, the nation’s capital, is a major cruise port.
The United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and France are among the major countries present in the Caribbean with which the nation enjoys cordial ties. Apart from the strain brought on by the island’s role as a transportation location for South American narcotics, the country is not involved in any active international crises.
Numerous global organizations, such as the UN, the League of American States, CARICOM, and the Association of Eastern Caribbean Nations, have Saint Lucia as a participant. The following nations have diplomatic ties with the island.
Canada
Following Saint Lucia’s sovereignty in 1979, Canada and Saint Lucia have maintained close diplomatic ties. Multinational collaboration, common ideals of freedom, the pursuit of law, and solid people-to-people links, particularly those formed through ecotourism, serve as the foundation of this partnership.
The Foreign Office of Canada in Barbados was inaugurated in 1967 and represents Canada in Saint Lucia. It is administered in Canada by an embassy in Toronto and a non-resident General Ambassador headquartered in Washington, D.C.
The two countries work closely together to improve security. They work together under Canada’s Anti-Crime Plan to combat cash trafficking and the illegal use of narcotics.
India
India’s consulate is jointly affiliated with the nation and is located in Paramaribo, Suriname. In 2016, there was $3.12 million in international trading between India and Saint Lucia, an improvement of 21% over the prior fiscal year. Automobiles, medicines, metal products, fabrics, and aluminum are the key products that are traded between countries.
In 2010, India helped in the St Jude Infirmary in Saint Lucia’s restoration. Furthermore, it contributed $50000 to catastrophe aid amid a Storm in 2010. The Indian Technological and Industrial Development Plan and the Indian Council for Foreign Affairs both offer scholarships to nationals.
Turkey
The distance between the two countries has historically limited ties between them. Nevertheless, since Turkey’s expansion policy toward Latin America was launched in 1998, bilateral relations and collaboration between both nations started to significantly grow.
In 2014, the first cabinet meeting of the conversation between both nations was attended by the foreign secretary of St. Lucia. During this conference, the two countries ratified the Air Services Accord.
Both Turkey and St. Lucia established an extensive resolution forging diplomatic ties between the two nations. The accreditation of St. Lucia extends to the Turkish Consulate in Port of Spain. In Castries, there is an official consular post for Turkey. By the end of 2019, the two countries bilateral trade volume reached USD 3 million.
Germany
Germany and Saint Lucia have cordial and peaceful political ties. The main areas of collaboration between the two nations are international development and cultural initiatives.
With only a little amount of trade going both ways, both countries have limited mutual industrial links. Since 1987, there has been a multilateral pact to protect and promote investments.
Saint Lucia and Germany have indirect ties in the area of economic collaboration because of CARICOM. These accords seek to promote collaboration in healthy financial growth, the advancement of alternative power sources, and the adjustment to climatic change. Additionally, Germany is funding local micro-projects on the island.
United States
Since the island’s separation from the United Kingdom in 1979, positive contact has existed between the US and Saint Lucia. The United States supports initiatives made by its administration to broaden its industrial base and enhance the quality of life for its population. Regarding security issues, the island has partnered with the US. Combating transnational crime and drug trafficking is a concern for both countries. Both countries have signed several bilateral accords, including an extradition pact, a convention on mutual legal aid, and agreements on marine law enforcement.
