Nicaragua follows a unique international strategy. Nicaragua, a member of the Central American Safety Council, has actively pushed for regional demilitarisation and the diplomatic resolution of differences between states in the area. 

It has asked the Global Court of Justice to settle three territory disagreements: one with Honduras, one with Colombia, and one with Costa Rica. The nation has relations with the following countries. 

Argentina 

Its foreign embassy is located in Buenos Aires, while Argentina’s is located in Managua. The contract for the development and reciprocal preservation of assets between the governments has been signed.

China

The bilateral partnership between China and Nicaragua is known as China-Nicaragua ties. Official ties were established in 1985 but were severed in 1990 after Nicaragua recognized Taiwan. In 2021, communication was resumed. The country’s embassy is in Beijing, while China’s is located in Managua.

Canada

Although Canada has a sizable trade imbalance with the country, the two countries continue to have a solid economic relationship. Fertilizers, animal items, electronic and mechanical gear, and polymers make up the majority of Canadian exports.

Denmark 

Relationships between Denmark and Nicaragua are referred to as Denmark-Nicaragua ties. Denmark has diplomatic representation in the nation at its immigration office in Mexico City. Its consulate in Helsinki, Finland, is affiliated with Denmark. The relationships are said to be good. The nation has been a member of the Danish program since 1993.

Finland 

Finland’s foreign office in Mexico City, Mexico, has diplomatic representation in Nicaragua. The Treaty for the Advancement and Mutual Defense of Investments was signed by the two nations in 2003.

India 

India and Nicaragua have friendly and cordial bilateral ties. In March 1983, India and Nicaragua effectively formed ties. 2008 saw the signing of a bilateral agreement on the exclusion of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports.

Mexico

Numerous bilateral contracts have been inked by the two countries. The topics covered by these agreements include diplomatic relations, tourism cooperation, drug trafficking, and addiction prevention, technical and scientific partnership, implementation of criminal judgments, and cooperation in teaching and culture.

Russia 

Several weeks after the Sandinista movement, on October 18, 1979, both nations formed diplomatic relations. On July 12, 2014, President Vladimir Putin traveled to Nicaragua. Moscow hosts a diplomatic mission for Nicaragua. Managua has the embassies of Russia.

South Korea 

The FTA between both countries was set to go into effect on October 1, 2019, making it the first nation in Central America to do so. The diplomatic tied between both nations started in 1962. 

Spain 

Numerous bilateral accords on dual citizenship, technical assistance, scientific partnership, air travel, investment safety, and license exchange have been established between the two countries.

Switzerland 

Regional integration, humanitarian relief, and trade are the main focuses of ties between both nations. Its embassies in Germany are affiliated with Switzerland. Switzerland has a headquarters in Managua. 

Turkey 

Both countries are participants of the Association of American States, Union of Latin American and Caribbean Nations, Association of Ibero-American States, and United Nations. Numerous agreements on visas, intercultural, travel, technical and scientific cooperation, and agriculture have been inked by the two countries.

Venezuela 

Since January 1979, Venezuela and Nicaragua have maintained diplomatic ties. Hugo Chavez’s presidency has seen a marked improvement in ties between both nations. The presidents of both countries have acknowledged being close friends and have traveled to one another’s countries.

Uruguay

Both countries are affiliates of the Association of American States, the Union of Latin American and Caribbean States, and the UN. Both countries have signed several agreements, including one that bans the need for visas for anyone with a valid passport from either country, as well as a business and cultural cooperation deal. Numerous more agreements addressing topics including academic cooperation, international relations, tourism, and agricultural affairs have also been struck by the two countries.
