The Sudanese Customs Authority is under the supervision of the Ministry of the Interior. Its website is out of date and contains very little useful information. Since the military gained control of the country in October 2022, the leadership has made various changes to the customs tariff to create money while also attracting investment.

International firms must follow the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning Investment Department’s requirements to use letters of credit in Sudan. Potential investors wish to meet with the Central Bank and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Trade stumbling hurdles
Border Trade Controls: Items that are imported and exported are required to be on lists that have been agreed upon by the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the relevant state. The following are exceptions to the security rules that apply to border trade: The procedure for importing must be finished within six months. Electronic processing will be used for the forms, both for arriving and departing travelers. The promise made by the exporter to complete the first import procedure must first be verified before the exporter is given access to any new export forms.
Restricted in access and not allowed Without a certificate from the National Council for Pharmacy and Toxicology, imports drugs, supplies, medical equipment, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, veterinary preparations, and vaccinations:
The National Council for Literary and Artistic Works must provide its approval before a tape recording can be released.
Satellite receivers are subject to authorization requirements from the National Communications Commission.
A public security license is necessary to operate color photocopiers and fax machines.
Obtaining approval from the Ministry of the Interior is necessary to purchase firearms, ammunition, explosives, or fireworks.
Authorization from the atomic energy authority is required to possess radioactive materials.
- The National Antiquities Authority is responsible for providing the approval of antiquities.
- Permission to operate must be obtained from the Ministry of Energy for major power generators.
The standards authority, the Department of Environment and Food Protection, and the Ministry of Health must all give their approval before food may be considered safe to eat, and also a valid health certificate issued by the Ministry of Animal Welfare is required for all live animals. The age of a person’s automobile can’t be more than three years old.
Products that are brought in from other countries
Products from other countries are subject to the customs tariff categories with the following requirements;
- A banking certificate from any commercial bank (I.M.)
- A certificate issued by the General Authority for Standardization and Metrology
- Bills of Lading
- Invoices
- Authorization for the carrier to deliver the goods;
- The Country’s Official Birth Document
- A certification from the authority that is both designated and competent, if the commodity is restricted.
- Examination of the packaging
- Verification of the insurance documents
The following kinds of goods are not allowed to be brought into the country:
- potassium bromide
- alcohol
- Gambling games
- Drugs other than those permitted for medical study
- Weapons, ammunition, and explosives that do not have a license to be sold in the country
